Taru Harmaala Chaloff's design shows her strong relationship with nature
For Taru Harmaala Chaloff, goldsmith and Master of Arts, jewelry is a channel for self-expression. Taru Harmaala Chaloff tells about her design philosophy: "I am inspired by my environment and my experiences. The story behind my jewelry can be seen in their shapes and surface patterns. I get excited about new things, materials and implementation methods,
which I use without prejudice alongside the traditional ones. For me, the design process is a continuous journey of discovery that satisfies my curiosity, a way to deal with the world around me."
"For me, the design process is a continuous journey of discovery that satisfies my curiosity, a way to deal with the world around me."
Taru Harmaala Chaloff has designed numerous jewelry series that show her strong relationship with nature. The newest jewelry series is called Nolla and the innovative use of material is part of its design. Finnish company Brightplus, which develops and manufactures biomaterials, has been involved in the design of the series.
"The inspiration for the Nolla jewelry series is Finland's endangered flowers, among which I found Lehtoängelmä. I liked the lines and overlapping of the bloom. At the same time, I'm thinking about the change in nature: How much will be lost, and what will replace it? Do new plants and flowers resemble the lost ones? It was natural and exciting to try a new biomaterial in this jewelry line," says Harmaala Chaloff.
